Double Glazing Cost per m² UK
A single “double glazing price per square metre” is convenient but misleading. Windows contain frames, hardware, openers, survey and fitting costs that do not scale linearly with glass area, so a small window usually has a higher effective £/m² than a larger one.
Quick price answer: Using exact-size standard uPVC examples, our model centres around £440 for a 1.0 m² window, £532 for 1.5 m² and £649 for 2.0 m². The effective price per m² therefore falls as the opening grows.
Exact-size model examples
These use exact dimensions and ordinary double-glazed uPVC casement configurations.
Figures are modelled UK-average fitted-market estimates from the Window Price Calculator engine, using its 24 September 2026 research refresh. They include ordinary removal, standard fitting, basic making good and VAT; scaffolding, hidden structural repairs and highly bespoke work can sit outside the range.
Effective price per square metre
Dividing the model centre by frame area shows why a flat rate is unreliable.
| Example | Centre price | Effective centre £/m² |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 m² | £440 | £440 |
| 1.5 m² | £532 | £355 |
| 2.0 m² | £649 | £324 |
Why window pricing is not linear
Several cost components are present even when the glass area is small.
Frame and hardware
A small opening still needs a full frame, locking system, hinges or fixed glazing beads, handles and manufacturing setup.
Survey and fitting
Travel, survey, removal, installation and certification do not halve simply because the window has half the area.

Questions people ask
How much is double glazing per m2?
There is no reliable single rate. In our examples the effective centre is about £440 per m² for a 1 m² window but only about £324 per m² for a 2 m² example.
Why do small windows cost more per square metre?
Because the frame, hardware, survey and fitting overheads are not proportional to glass area.
Is price per m2 useful at all?
It can be a rough sense-check for similarly configured large openings, but individual window size and opener layout are much better inputs for a real estimate.
Use actual dimensions instead of a flat £/m² rate.
Exact width and height produce a more useful estimate because the model can price the frame, layout and glazing together.
